Apple Music gets you consuming local

Published on 3 May 2021

If you use Apple Music as your music streaming service, you could already check the charts of the most-played songs in various countries (including France, obviously). It was already very nice, but Apple now goes further by offering playlists of 25 songs that are ultra-localized, based on around a hundred cities all over the world. Basically, if you want to listen to the most-loved songs in New York, Bordeaux, Seoul, Dubai, Honolulu… it's possible! In France you get the cities of Paris, Marseille, Bordeaux and Lyon!

Each playlist is updated daily, based among other things on the number of listens. The algorithm is nonetheless a bit more complex than that, but Apple doesn't share all its details.

Don't go imagining the songs will be the same as for the country charts, far from it, there are real disparities from one city to another, this is especially true in France (Marseille and Lyon really don't have the same playlists), but also in most countries, including the USA, particularly well stocked in number of cities.

Take a look, if only out of curiosity, and you'll quickly become addicted to zapping from one city to another! Personally I highly recommend the playlists of Seoul, Dallas, New York, Manchester, Tokyo…

To find all these playlists, you launch Apple Music, you go to the "Browse" tab, and you look for "City Charts"!
