Free the wild hair!

Published on 4 May 2016

I'm the type to have wild hair. "Having wild hair" is probably an expression known mostly by the people who, precisely, have wild hair. This curse affects, at a rough guess, a good third of the population, and has been panicking us since our earliest childhood.

I remember certain mornings, before going to middle school, when I'd spend hours trying to flatten that rebellious lock that shot straight up off my head, that unbearable cowlick that no layer of gel could hold down, and the insistent gaze of people above my head, more interested in that improbable shape than in whatever I might be saying.

Whereas in reality, wild hair is a strength, it's free hair, that owns its shapes and decides to go wherever it pleases. It's beautiful, it's spirited, we must let it live its life!

All the more so since, let's not kid ourselves, when you try to tame a hair, it inevitably tends to grow stronger and get even more ridiculous. I have this memory of that TF1 news anchor who presented an entire newscast with a horizontal lock. I'm convinced the newsroom's hairdressers spent hours fighting it, and the more they fought, the more the lock rebelled!

All this to say, free the hair, stop the gel, the hairspray, the straighteners, you couldn't be cuter with your free hair!
